A NASCAR Ministry

ESPN - Ashenfelter: Shepherd racing on a shoestring and a cause - Nascar:
"'Our main goal is to be here and to serve the Lord -- that's what we're about with the [Racing with] Jesus logo on the car,' Shepherd said. 'But we're serious about our racing, too. It [just] takes dollars to do it.'"

The car wrecked at Kentucky was purchased from Robert Yates Racing, after it had been involved in a wreck. Shepherd and his all-volunteer team worked on the chassis, and the car was converted to a Dodge.

The motor was used in Shepherd's Nextel Cup car, and the team made the alterations necessary for it to be legal in the Busch Series.

"We just took parts and pieces ... [building it] one piece at a time," Shepherd said.

65 years old and racing for the Lord. Living off a shoestring budget is not the way it should be, but I am impressed with this man and cheer for him when I see him on the races on TV. Here is hoping that he makes the NH race.
